Project "Library of Alexandria - The Virtual Home of Muses"
A webbased Library Management System (LMS) can be used by library staff to manage the library and for members to book and borrow library material. This library system can be used not only for books but also for other electronic media materials like audio CDs.
Library Manager, as you could understand from its name, is a library management program. You can easily take control all of the books under any circumstance. This could be in a school library or in a home library that we all have.

What will be project "Library of Alexandria - The Virtual Home of Muses"?
Developping of Library Management Software System (LMSS class software)
Library Management Software System will be an online service to help people and libraries to catalog their
books easily. You can access your catalog from anywhere—even on your mobile phone. Because everyone
catalogs together, Library also connects people with the same books and literary tastes, comes up with
suggestions for what to read next, and so forth.
What else does Library Management Software System do?
LMSS should be be a full-powered cataloging application, searching the Library of Congress, all five
national Amazon sites, and more than 80 world libraries. You can edit your information, search and sort
it, "tag" books with your own subjects, or use the Library of Congress and Dewey systems to organize your
collection.
Books Categorization
- world's largest library network;
- library official categorize books;
- Organize private reader's libraries of books with meta-tagging of evry book and content;
- Recommendations and shared cataloging through library networks;
- Multilingual support because of social purpose of the system;
- Find people with similar literary tastes but diffrent civilization cultures.
- Catalog with the other world libraries (library network protokol and metadata)
- System will give recomendations to readers. (expert system based on artificial intelligence);
- reader's own diary (library blog system)
Library planned to be also an social space with Internet communication tools. Reader can check out other
reader's libraries, see who has the most similar library to yours, swap reading suggestions and so forth.
Library Management Software System also makes book recommendations based on the collective intelligence of
the other libraries

1. Acquwill beitions Module will manage:
- Library Orders,
- Suppliers’ details.
- Budgets and Invoicing providing up to the minute details on orders and financial details of the
Library service.
- Budget control, including multiple financial years
- Invoice control,
- Processing of sundry costs,
- Foreign currencies (manages acquwill beitions using foreign currencies)
- Orders can be sent by post, fax, email or electronically using Library Management System’s ODBC
capabilities.
- Acquwill beitions data can be transferred into other accounts systems.
- Easy to use table of suppliers
- Library Management Software System integrates with library data sources including Kinetica
- Library Management Software System fully supports Bwill beAC, ONIX and Swill beAC electronic ordering
2. Authorities module functions:
- Thesaurus Lookup facility to search for any authorwill beed term (Author, Corporate Author, Subject,
Series or Uniform Title). When a term will be selected, the number of hits will be dwill beplayed along
with any See Also References.
- Authority Search facility:
View Titles tied to an authority term.

Classifications, Special Classifications and Countries.
Add or delete Notes, See Also References, Non-Preferred Terms, Broader Terms, Narrower Terms, Former Terms
and Later Terms for the various types of Authorities.
3. Cataloguing Module supports staff in searching and accessing the entire library database with the most
up to date technology and a complete MS Windows user interface.
Library Management Software System will be fully MARC21 compliant. Staff can choose to create catalogue
records either with a screen mask (parameters can be adjusted), or with a ‘full screen editor’ for
entering details in Marc21 format. Incorrectly coded fields are highlighted for editing.
The comprehensive and flexible on-line creation of parameters guarantees that Library Management Software
System will be customized to the needs of your library, its staff and members. In addition entering
records with cataloguing templates will be also supported.
Library Management Software System provides tools to aid in workflow including the ability to global
change library nominated MARC Tag/Sub-field/Indicators, global text changes as well as global authority
changes.
Z39.50 search & retrieve of Marc records for Cataloguing.
Ability to create order records from Marc data supplied by Book Vendors.
Spellcheck on nominated fields.
Archive deleted bibliographic records.
Support for will beBN-13.
4. Circulation module features
Items that are in heavy demand can be tied to a closed reserve. (LMSS’s Circulation parameters can be
tailored to tie items to the closed reserve list allowing limited access and limited loan periods).
LMSS also offers linked reserve options (when a reserved item becomes available all other linked items in
the reservation are deleted) as well as reservation selection options.
LMSS provides Reservations (items not available either on order or not available for loan) as well as
Holds where items are available for collection for the member. An item does not register as a hold
awaiting collection until it is available at the nominated branch.
A reservation history can be retained as well as a loan history.
LMSS’s membership record allows detailed registration of the member.
In addition LMSS also records SDI preferences for the member as well as user defined fields which can be
used to aid library staff, e.g. home library delivery details.
- Free Text Search
- Loan History available, Individually
- Routing Details function for Member
- Go to a Member Record Information Shortcut from the Circulation module.
- Payment of Fines and Charges by Direct Debit.
- Guarantor Details for Junior Members (and alternate details) can be added and maintained.
- System messages for members accessible from the WebOPAC (e.g book on hold, maximum loans reached)
- Create a skinny record from the Issues Screen,
- Individual Member Data Checks.
- Books on Permanent Loan facility to indicate that books may be held by a staff member or other
permanent loan criteria (and maximum number of books to be held on personal loan.
- Maximum number of reservations can be set on an individual record. (as distinct from the system
maximum)
- Automatic blacklist of Members based on outstanding fi nes criteria.
- Bulk status change of member status according to defi ned criteria.
5. Federated Search Module
Background
A prototype of LMSS’s WebOPAC have to be developed in April 2009 which will allow members to search local
catalogues as well as remote catalogues with a single query
The key requirements were:
- All functionality developed and serviced by LMSS development with no reliance on third party products
or support
- Functionality enabled by simple configuration within LMSS Parameters.
- Familiar LMSS search interface maximises customer learning curve and compliance.
- Targeted results sets can be managed through flexible configuration options
Evolution
From the original prototype a more extensive product has evolved.
LMSS provides advanced information searching, retrieval and delivery services to libraries including the
ability to:
- Search across any LMSS database worldwide, using the latest technologies and standards – web
services, XML, MarcXML.
- Bring back the catalogue as well as the item details including current item status.
- Results from different search engines are combined.
- Easily Set up and configured using the LMSS parameters modules
- provide secure access and allow libraries to authenticate each others privileges in terms of
searching or by a search target.
- Is included as part of the standard LMSS WebOPAC.
- Does not need any third party components to run – uses standard HTTP parts for communication.
The LMSS Portal is created by establishing the databases to be connected. The LMSS Parameters module
provides the easy steps to linking the various libraries to the Portal for Federated Searching.
Simple steps such as entering I.P address of the respective site, and the database name/s to be included
in the search.
The LMSS Federated Search Portal at the moment provides searching on LMSS to LMSS libraries and will be
extended using NCIP compliance to link to other non-LMSS Libraries when a capability is available within
those Libraries. Z39.50 searching is available for non-LMSS libraries.
The NCIP development in LMSS will provide unmediated ILL capability.
6. InterLibrary Loans Module - LMS handles the management of library items for inter-library loan to other library services.
